Thinking back
1. In some places in Africa people greet each other by spitting in each other's face.
2. In the Middle Ages kissing was a common greeting.
3. In olden times soldiers used to hold their weapons in their right hands.
4. In Japan people bow to each other when they meet.
Thinking about it
1. It is important to greet someone because if you don't they might get upset.
2. In the 16th century, the Dutchman was surprised because he had to kiss every member of the family when he went to visit them, even the cat.
3. In Japan, it was important to greet someone by bowing because it is a sign of respect.
Thinking it through
1. I found the part about people in Africa spitting in the face the most interesting because in my culture it is rude to spit.
2. The headings and the pictures helped me figure out the answers.
3. Bowing would be a great heading for the last paragraph.
4. Here are some rude things: pinching, screaming when someone is asleep, not saying thank you when you give someone a ride home, talking about private things, spying on people, stamping on flowers, not using your fork and knife, burping and swearing.
